Boiler: correct care and maintenance
- 01.03.2025
Even if the boiler is installed correctly, there is wear and tear on parts during use. There can also be unpleasant and unexpected breakdowns. Many of these can be avoided or delayed. Let's look at how to properly care for and maintain the boiler.
Timely boiler cleaning
If the electric tube heater for boilers is located in a tank in the water, lime deposits will settle on it when it is heated. If the water is hard, a lot of them can be deposited. Because of this, the heating of the water is impaired b electric tube heater works longer. This can cause it to break down. The water heats up more slowly. It takes more energy and time. You can tell that limescale has formed by a higher noise when the water is heated. It is therefore necessary to clean the boiler regularly, preferably once a year. It is carried out according to the following steps:
- The electrical appliance is disconnected from the power supply.
- Drain the water from the tank through the mixer tap.
- Shut off the water in the apartment. Open the valve and completely free the tank from water.
- Remove the outer cover of the boiler, disconnect the wiring and remove the electric tube heater. Clean the thermostat tubes, inner tank and heating element from dirt deposits, replace magnesium anodes.
- The boiler is reassembled.
This cleaning requires physical strength and experience. When descaling the boiler, it is important not to scratch or damage the surfaces.
To reduce the formation of limescale, a filter can be installed in the water supply. The boiler will then need to be cleaned less frequently. However, it will still need to be done.
Observe the temperature setting
It is also important to correctly set the temperature of the boiler. If for a long time it stays at 30-40 °, bacteria and mold develop in the tank. Such a tank will have to clean more often and use caustic means. The optimal temperature for heating water in the boiler is 55-60°. It prevents the growth of bacteria and its temperature is suitable for use. Once every 2 months, the boiler is heated to 90°. This is necessary for better disinfection.
Slow down the wear and tear of the internal parts
Boilers are designed for water supply and whole system pressures up to 6 bar. In apartment buildings, the pressure in the water supply system can change dramatically. It is therefore important to install a pressure reducer in the water supply system of an apartment or private house. It will equalize the pressure, which will reduce the risk of wear of the safety valves.
It is better that the boiler works constantly. When the desired temperature is reached, the device automatically turns off. When it is necessary to heat the liquid to the set parameter, the water heater turns on. Some users, having heated the boiler, disconnect it from the network in order to save money. However, this on the contrary increases energy consumption. Therefore, when heating from a cooled state, the heating element consumes more electricity. The parts wear out faster. The boiler is disconnected if it is not to be used for longer than three days.
Properly reserve the boiler
If the water heater will not need to be used for a while, it must be shut off properly. Shut off the cold water supply to the boiler. To do this, install a valve in the system during installation to shut off the water upstream of the water heater. Disconnect the heater from the power supply.
