Construction scaffolding: what it is, types, application
- 26.02.2023
To carry out high-altitude work was safe and comfortable, the construction scaffolding is installed. This is a construction made of metal supports with elements that increase rigidity and stability. Workers climb them on ladders. Let's consider what kind of scaffolding is and where they are used.
Types of scaffolding
Construction scaffolding differs in configuration, the type of fastening elements and the location of the ladders. This affects the method of assembly, strength, carrying capacity and the maximum height of the structure. Construction scaffolding is assembled from frames or modules.
Frame scaffolding consists of vertical frames, horizontal and diagonal rungs-bonds connected by special locks. Shields are laid on the frames. Workers are positioned on them. Ladders are attached to the vertical frames.
Frames scaffolding can be stationary and mobile, with wheels. The height of a construction is 25-40 m. Their peculiarity is that the design is quickly assembled and disassembled, since it has few fasteners. Types of frame scaffolding:
- Vishnev scaffolding is distinguished by the fact that the frames are arranged horizontally, with vertical struts and decking resting on them. Ladders are installed inside the structure. The height reaches 20 m.
- Pinned scaffolding consists of tubes, which are inserted one into another, diagonal struts. The props are installed in special braces. The height of the construction is up to 40 m.
- Flag scaffolding is different in that the cross and diagonal elements are connected by flag fasteners.
Modular scaffolds differ from frame scaffolds in that they consist of blocks that can be connected at different angles. Because of this, they are installed at buildings with a non-standard design. Modular scaffolding types:
- Kwikstage scaffolding with non-slip platforms and double guardrails.
- Haki construction scaffolding consists of few elements, so it is very fast installed. They have a reliable adaptive design.
- Wedge scaffolding is assembled from elements, fixing them with special wedge joints by hammering them in. This is a particularly strong construction. It can reach up to 120 m in height.
- Multilevel ladder towers allow workers to move quickly from one level to another and to deliver materials.
- Clamping scaffolding is characterized by the fact that the support pipes and decks are connected by clamps. The structure is additionally fastened to the wall. Clamped scaffolding is suitable for works on a slope or irregular building configuration.
- Suspended scaffolding is used where there is no solid, level base. They are mounted on special fasteners that are installed from above. Such structures are used at heights of more than 100 m in the repair of bridges, pipelines, etc.
The use of scaffolding
Various high-altitude work is convenient to perform, being on a stable surface with fences. You also need enough space to place materials and tools. Construction scaffolding provides such working conditions, so they are used for various types of work:
- construction and finishing of buildings;
- installation of electrical wiring, ventilation and lighting systems in rooms;
- shipbuilding, aircraft construction;
- scaffolding, stage mounting, etc.
Construction scaffolding differs according to the place of installation. There are special models for work indoors, outdoors near the building or universal. Frame scaffolds are installed near flat walls. If the building is complex, clamping scaffolds are suitable. If you need to work on a large area of walls, the pinned facade scaffolding is installed. They have a rigid, stable construction that can withstand a lot of weight.
