Fishing for spinning for beginners: what gear and equipment are needed
- 05.03.2023
For those who are just thinking about trying their forces in spinning fishing, the choice of equipment and tackle can be a problem. The market offers a huge number of options from different materials, at different prices and with different characteristics. In order that such variety does not scare away a beginner, it is worth to get acquainted with the primary set of tackle, with which you should start your acquaintance with spinning.
Arsenal of tackle for fishing
Almost any set of spinning tackle includes the same accessories:
- At the core is a rod, which consists of a blank with skipping rings for the fishing line and a handle on which there is a mount for the reel;
- reel for the fishing rod (its design and appearance may vary, it all depends on the tastes of the fisherman and the fishing conditions);
- In addition, the reel is equipped with a fishing line or cord, to which the equipment itself is already attached.
As for the equipment, then everything depends on the experience of the fisherman himself, on his style of fishing, on the conditions of fishing and other factors. The kit may include:
- trollers and wobblers;
- a variety of weights;
- floats;
- Leads with hooks;
- feeders;
- artificial lures, etc.
However, for a beginner, a more modest set of tackle is suitable.
A box for fishing tackle
Buy a beginner a huge box for fishing with many compartments is not worth it. It is best if the box will be convenient and practical.
There are many different models on the market, made of plastic, polycarbonate, polymer, PVC, etc. The material should be selected depending on your budget and fishing conditions.
And as for the size and capacity, the beginner in fishing is quite suitable for a two-shelf box on stable «legs». For a basic set of tackle it is enough.
Fishing rod
Most newcomers to spinning start fishing from the shore. So the first rod should be selected on this basis. The length of the tackle should be selected taking into account the conditions of fishing and the growth of the fisherman. Universal is considered a rod length of 1,9-2,4 m - this is enough for the fisherman, whose height is 1,7-1,9 m.
Take a beginner spinning longer than 2.5 meters just makes no sense. You'll have to move along the shore, which is overgrown with bushes and trees, reeds and cane, tackle will be constantly confused. And to master such a long spinning will be difficult.
Rod material
On the market there are spinning blanks, made of the following materials:
- Carbon (aka carbon fiber reinforced plastic) - the most high-quality option, lightweight, tensile strength, but on impact brittle;
- fiberglass - more budget variant, which will serve more than one season, but weighs a lot and has less sensitivity;
- Composite - this is something between carbon and fiberglass, for anglers with an average budget will be an excellent choice.
Spinning options
There are the following models of spinning rods:
- extendable (aka telescopic);
- spinning rods.
Telescopic spinning rods are best for those who are just starting to fish or don't do it often. Compact models are durable, but there are certain problems with sensory control and casting.
For more experienced anglers, a spinning rod is more suitable. But it will take up a lot of space and require more careful handling when transporting.
There are also differences in spinning gear by class:
- ultralight;
- light;
- medium;
- medium-heavy;
- heavy.
Beginners should choose the light version with a test of 2-15 or 5-21 grams. This option is considered universal and suitable for most types of baits.
Fishing line
Monofilament fishing line and cord with a diameter of 0.12-0.16 mm is suitable for fishing with spinning. Monofilament absorbs too much water, swells and loses its strength, but it perfectly dampens jerk fish.
Additionally, the reel is accompanied by two interchangeable bobbins for fishing line, so beginners should make two different windings and see in practice what will be more convenient for them. The diameter of the line should be selected for the test rod.
Lures
Weight and type of bait should be selected for the rod, for the object of fishing and for the conditions of fishing (type of body of water). The minimum set for the beginner looks like this:
- fishing spoons (2-3 pcs. in sizes 1-3 by Mepps);
- silicone fishing baits (2 pcs, you can take worms, rippers, twisters of 1-2 inches);
- weights (3-8 g, 2-3 pcs.);
- crank wobblers (6-10 g);
- minnow bait (1-2 pieces of 3-7 cm and 6-10 g).
