How to properly care for a tattoo in the first days: useful tips
- 28.02.2023
The quality, durability, brightness of a tattoo depends not only on the professionalism of the master, who beat it, but also on how carefully the client himself looked after the figure. It is especially important to follow all recommendations given by the master in the first few days after the procedure.
Nuances of care for a freshly made tattoo
After the master finishes applying the image selected by the client, he will treat the working area with antiseptic, wound-healing preparations. Then the tattooist will put a special transparent film on top and fix it with a plaster. Some for this purpose use the usual food film or absorbent diaper, sold in pharmacies. But there are also those who use specialized films with a special hypoallergenic adhesive layer and a breathable structure. This option is preferable, because not only protects the skin from infection, but also allows it to breathe.
Depending on what kind of film to use to protect the damaged skin, the rules of care for a fresh tattoo are also different.
If the film was specialized:
- it is allowed to take a shower with it, but you should not do it too long, so that the skin does not get steamed up;
- During the first three days fluid will accumulate under the film - it is normal, there is no need to panic, the wound will dry out later and heal on its own;
- Remove the specialized film on the fifth day after the procedure;
- After removing the film the tattoo should be washed with water and liquid soap;
- Until the wound is completely healed, it is necessary to lubricate the skin with a moisturizing or healing cream.
If a drugstore or food film was used:
- to remove the film should be 6-12 hours after the procedure, it is necessary to clarify this with the master who did the tattoo;
- Always treat a fresh tattoo with mild liquid soap, no means with alcohol and other aggressive compounds should be used on the skin;
- Then the skin should be blotted with a cotton swab and allowed to dry completely;
- also apply a healing gel or cream to speed up the healing process, and then cover the image again with a film;
- The algorithm is repeated 2-3 times a day for the first three days after the procedure.
General recommendations for tattoo care
In addition to direct recommendations for the care of damaged skin, you should also listen to general recommendations relating to lifestyle:
- Sports training is better to limit for a while. Most often the masters recommend to give up loads for a couple of days.
- The first 14 days after the procedure, you need several times a day (usually 2-3 times) to wash the image with mild liquid soap. Do not use products with alcohol or other aggressive components.
- Clothing should choose the appropriate. Avoid wearing tight clothes that can chafe the skin. You should also cover the fresh tattoo from the sun, dirt, and dust.
- Long showers and baths are prohibited in the first weeks after the procedure. Maximum time of water procedures is 10 minutes, so that the skin does not wrinkle and does not spoil the image.
- Excessively chlorinated water (e.g. from the pool) or salty water is not acceptable for fresh tattoo and traumatized skin.
- Be sure to maintain a balance of fluids. At least 1.5 liters of water per day should be consumed to help the body repair damaged skin more quickly.
- If purulent discharge has appeared on the skin, and unpleasant smell starts to spread from the tattoo, it is necessary to see a doctor as soon as possible. It is possible that an infection got into the wound and infection has started.
Before using any means in the care of the tattoo, it is necessary to consult a doctor and read the instructions. The use of unsuitable preparations and procedures can be harmful to your health.
