- 07.02.2023
The refrigerator - almost the main object in the house, because a significant part of the food for the family is stored there. For the equipment to work properly as long as possible, it is important to take care of it properly. How to do this depends on what kind of cooling system is installed. Simple maintenance steps can significantly extend the life of your refrigerator, otherwise you will have to pay for repairs or, in the worst case, buy a new one.
No Frost Refrigerators
No Frost cooling equipment is the easiest to care for. It has a defrost system that activates as ice builds up. Built-in fans blow the interior of the equipment and gradually dry out the liquid. In this way, icing in the refrigerator does not occur. You don't have to defrost it. It is enough to wipe the shelves and compartments as dirty with a solution of soda or other detergents. It is important that they are natural, because hazardous chemicals can evaporate and get on the food.
With proper care, No Frost refrigerators rarely fail, especially if they are brands like Bosch, Beko, Gorenje, etc. If your refrigerator does not work, it is better to contact the specialists for repair at once.
Drip refrigerators
Food cooling equipment with a drip system needs regular defrosting once every 6-8 months. The process is much easier than before, thanks to the improved system. You need to empty the refrigerator of food, unplug it from the power supply for 2-3 hours. The ice thaws and the water drains through special grooves to the tray under the refrigerator. From there you can drain the liquid or it will gradually evaporate.
To prevent ice from freezing in drip refrigerators too quickly, follow these tips:
- When using the refrigerator and freezer doors open only when necessary and close as soon as possible. It's better to decide in advance what to take out of there than to stand, wondering, in front of the refrigerator with the door open. Heat comes in, condensation occurs, which freezes with frost.
- You don't want to put kissel, soup, or other liquids that evaporate in the refrigerator in an open container.
- Cut watermelon, cabbage, and other vegetables are packed to keep them from giving up moisture.
If the refrigerator is serviceable, it is often necessary to defrost the freezer compartment and simply clean out the cooling compartment. However, if the compressor serves the entire unit, you have to turn it off completely. Some refrigerators are equipped with two compressors, then, you can not turn off the refrigerator compartment, but only the freezer compartment.
A few tips for caring for your refrigerator
In order for the cooling equipment to keep an attractive appearance for longer and work properly, follow these recommendations:
- Cleaning the refrigerator from the inside, it is important not to forget about cleaning its external parts. Dust collects under the cabinet and on the back panel. It can get on the grills, the fan, which increases overheating, complicates the work. Therefore, wipe these parts, be sure to disconnect the refrigerator from the power grid.
- The gaskets on the doors are checked for elasticity and integrity. If they are worn out, it is necessary to put new ones. The gaskets are necessary for hermeticity of the refrigerating chamber.
- For the refrigerator to work properly, it must stand level. Check its position with the help of the level and, if necessary, tighten the legs.
- If the equipment has an ice maker or water dispenser, it is important not to forget to change the filters periodically.
After the refrigerator is defrosted, washed and dried, it is plugged in and not loaded with food for about an hour and a half. This is to allow the equipment to develop the desired temperature.
