- 07.01.2025
Pollution of the environment with plastic waste is a global problem. That's why environmentalists urge people to stop using plastic bags. Instead of them, eco-activists recommend giving preference to paper packaging - kraft bags. But these products have not only advantages, but also disadvantages. This article is about the types and features of kraft bags.
Kraft bags and their advantages
Bags have been helping out shoppers for years. They are offered at the checkout in supermarkets, clothing and shoe stores, household chemicals and cosmetics. If once such containers were saved and used in the household, now they are sent to the trash after use. The amount of polyethylene in landfills is only increasing, and given the fact that the material decomposes for a very long time, everything can end in an ecological disaster.
A completely different matter - paper bags. The mere fact that they are made of natural raw materials and are recyclable attracts attention. The density of paper - from 35 to 120 g per square meter, which determines its strength properties. Another feature of the product is its color. Kraft bags traditionally have a pleasant brown “ecological” color.
Paper packaging was invented long before synthetic analogs. In the 19th century, industry was actively developing, and with it, trade. Sellers had to find ways in which to wrap purchases. This is how the first paper bags appeared, but nowadays the technology has been improved, and modern products are much more practical.
In addition to eco-friendliness, kraft bags have other positive characteristics:
- Ability to let air pass through.
- Reasonable cost.
- Unusual appearance.
- Privacy of the contents, as kraft paper is not translucent.
The products stay fresh longer in the paper. As for hot bread, it will not lose its lushness and crispness, and, very importantly, will not fog up. Also kraft bag is ideal for cookies. Some housewives specifically purchase such a container for storing their favorite treats. For products, kraft bags without handles are often used.
Unusual and stylish look gift kraft bags. They are applied advertising and congratulatory inscriptions, company logos and other information. For medical institutions special kraft bags for sterilization of instruments are produced.
Since the paper is opaque, no one will see what is inside the bag. However, this property at the same time creates inconveniences. So, for example, when you need to urgently find a bag with certain contents, you have to open each one. That's why some models are equipped with a window.
Disadvantages and prospects of kraft bags
Although paper is considered an environmentally friendly material, cellulose is used for its production. In turn, the manufacture of this raw material is a complex technological process that harms nature. We are talking about harmful emissions and cutting down trees. The work of industrial enterprises increases the greenhouse effect dangerous for the planet.
Even the strongest kraft bag can not withstand serious loads. Paper is exposed to moisture, its service life is limited. Despite its relative availability, the price remains high, which makes paper containers economically not always profitable. For this reason, paper bags are not so widespread, although some countries have bans on the use of plastic for packaging.
