According to the definition of the World Health Organization, infertility is diagnosed if a couple cannot conceive during a year of sexual activity. Around the world, approximately 15% of couples face this problem. Female infertility has a variety of causes. The approach to preventing women's reproductive health must be comprehensive.
Types of female infertility and its signs
Infertility comes in two types:
- Primary infertility - when a woman has never become pregnant due to congenital abnormalities of the genitals, genetic or chromosomal defects.
- Secondary infertility - pregnancy was in the past, but because of a disease, psychological stress and other reasons conception does not occur.
Infertility may not manifest itself physically in any way, and the woman goes to the doctor because she cannot get pregnant. There may also be such signs:
- Irregular cycle;
- PMS - strong emotional fluctuations before the critical days, pain in the breasts, increased temperature;
- skin rashes;
- a dramatic increase in body weight;
- painful menstruation;
- Increased growth of hair on the face and body - indicates that there is a hormonal failure.
Causes of female infertility
Infertility occurs due to the following reasons:
- Uterine tubal obstruction. Their cavity is blocked by a cyst or other formation. It is diagnosed with the help of X-ray or ultrasound method.
- Psychological factor. A woman experiences a lot of stress at work, in the family, does not feel safe. She may be afraid of a difficult pregnancy and childbirth. If a woman has a conflict with her husband, she is not well provided for financially, there are housing problems, all this also triggers processes in the body that prevent conception, as the situation is assessed as unfavorable for childbirth.
- Hormonal failure can lead to the fact that ovulation does not occur. A consultation with a gynecologist-endocrinologist is necessary.
- Endometriosis - overgrowth of the internal tissues of the uterus makes it impossible for sperm to travel or implant a fertilized egg.
- Polycystic disease - due to masses in the ovaries, the dominant follicle cannot ensure the maturation and release of eggs.
Prevention of female infertility
First of all, it is necessary to provide living conditions that are favorable for conception:
- emotionally calm environment, if possible reduce stress to a minimum, if necessary work with a psychologist to quickly cope with anxiety;
- nutritious diet - in the diet there should be a sufficient amount of protein, fats and carbohydrates, fresh fruits and vegetables, natural meat, dairy products, fish;
- to have enough rest, to have pleasant impressions;
- To create safe living conditions, as far as possible, to provide stable housing and income for the family.
To detect pathologies that lead to infertility as soon as possible, regularly visit the family doctor, gynecologist for routine examinations and tests, even if you feel well.
