What is a balancing machine for tire service

The stand for balancing wheels consists of such parts:

• A solid base, a metal structure on which other elements are fixed.
• Balancing device - an oscillating system with a rotating rotor.
• Electric motor, brakes, control circuit.
• Measuring device with sensors, measuring plane separation circuits and indicators.
• Correction device.
• Insulating cover protecting the operator from injuries during operation.

The peculiarity of balancing stands is that they divide the wheel clearly in two in the vertical plane. This allows the wheel to be balanced in two planes. However, it is important for the operator to set the wheel exactly perpendicular to the shaft. Larger and heavier wheels can have a higher error when fixed on the machine. Therefore, special care is required from the craftsman.

How the tire balancing machine works

The tire is placed on the balancing machine. Its correct position is centered using cones. The wheel is rotated and a measuring device determines the data about its movement. A computer program processes the results and displays information about the condition of the wheel, gives recommendations on how to adjust the weight and location of weights.

Types of balancing stands for tire service

Data in the balancing machine can be entered manually, pre-measuring all the characteristics of the wheel. There are also automatic models. They are more convenient and accurate, since the equipment itself measures all the parameters of the wheel, using electronic rulers. Measurement is very fast.

Balancing machines are differentiated by the supply voltage required for their work: 220 or 380 V. Equipment with a large indicator has increased productivity and power.

Modern balancing machines are equipped with additional functions:

• Third hand is necessary to install low-profile tires.
• A pneumatic shock comes in handy to quickly insert the tire onto the rim.
• Pressure limiter is useful when tires are automatically inflated.
• Double-sided work table.

Another type of equipment is the auto tire finishing balancer. It is designed to balance the wheels that are mounted on the car. The car is placed on the machine, start its engine and spin the wheels. This kind of balancing is the most accurate because the wheels rotate as they do when the car is in use.
